ANDOVER HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY

The Society was formed in 1991 by the union of two much older societies – Andover Archaeology Society founded in 1965 and Andover Local History Society founded in 1979. The talks at our meetings are on local history and archaeology in and around Andover – and sometimes from further afield. Our annual Dacre Lecture is a public event and is given by an archaeologist or historian of national standing. Our annual publication ‘Lookback’ has articles of local historical and archaeological interest, written by members. We also publish works on various local history topics. Finally we keep an eye on any apparent threats to the built heritage of Andover.   We usually meet between September and May on the fourth Friday of the month in the Andover Guildhall – please check the programme in case of any change of venue.  Doors open at 7pm, with the bookstall available, and the evening programme starts at 7.30 pm. In June we have a guided walk around a local village or place of archaeological interest
