With no written language in prehistory, we are reliant on the often politically biased writings of Greek and Romans for descriptions of women in the British Iron Age. We therefore look to archaeological discoveries to give us some idea of the daily lives and indeed the positions of influence that our female ancestors may have enjoyed in the centuries leading up to the Roman invasion of AD43.  Was the warrior Queen Boudicca typical of her sex or an exception born out of necessity?

This new talk – a work in progress – will look at the evidence available and see if we can build any sort of picture of women’s lives in the last millennium BC.
